A little write-up

"Man is free at the instant he wants to be." Voltaire

A little write up about Voltaire:

Voltaire or François-Marie Arouet (21 November 1694 – 30 May 1778), was a French Enlightenment writer, essayist, deist and philosopher.

Voltaire was known for his sharp wit, philosophical writings, and defence of civil liberties, including freedom of religion and the right to a fair trial. He was an outspoken supporter of social reform despite strict censorship laws in France and harsh penalties for those who broke them. A satirical polemicist, he frequently made use of his works to criticize the French institutions of his day.

The quote "Man is free at the instant he wants to be" occurs to me today while surfing for my Project Work. A man will only feel free when he wanted to, that is the direct interpretation of the quote, but, what is free? Freedom of what? For Voltaire's case, it could be the freedom from his society as the French then was a very restrictive society much like today's er...ok, I should say anything about anywhere, while maintaining a bright beautiful surface.

His frustration were express through the use of poetry, play and other form of literary channel. He also has different views that opposes today's society, but he still can be considered radical in a way that how he try to criticize in his day.

Now, back to the quote, a man is free to think whatever he wanted to, but always that he can not express the views because the society doesn't accept them , rather, these ideas are in the way of how those persons with authority wants the society to become. In many ways, the person who radically express their view will be condemned by the order of laws. In the earlier parts of the history, those became heretics, witches and wizards and were executed, now as the society progresses, the term is changing and the authority suppress them in other ways, such as the communist during the red scare, those people aren't really communist as the the so called authority is insecure about the real communist threat. The reason can be attributed that the authorities are trying to hide something, a threat greater than any others and the persons involve are expressing something that would shook the source of power.

A person is free at the instant that he wants to be shows that even in the deep torturous dungeon, with the correct mental attitude, the person can feel actually, free of any restriction. The restrictions are only what the person thinks of. In a sense, a totally free person is a person that can throw away any form of self restriction and enjoy life, isn't it?

Although free, there must be a form of code that will govern one's life, freedom doesn't means that there is no law, but there must be a form of guidelines of how humans should lived.

So, the thought of the day, "a man is free the instant he wants to be" We should only be the judge of our life, how we want is how we will be.
